Bonaire's Economy is made up by many different facets
 

The Department of Economic and Labour Affairs has the following objectives:

  • Serve and look after the Island Territory affairs on a social-economic field and also the execution of co-government related tasks;
  • Further a well-balanced social-economic development;
  • Further the realization and maintenance of sufficient quantitative and qualitative employment for the population;
  • Promote the realization and maintenance of a mutual relation between employers and employees and also the execution of labour related laws.

and thereby supports the government organs of the Island Territory.


Main tasks

DEZA has the following main tasks for the realization of these objectives:

a)
Social-economic development planning;
b)
Development of employment;
c)
Promotion and innovation;
d)
Development of tourism, traffic and transport, public utilities, and other sectors;
e)
Stimulation of small and medium enterprises;
f)
Labour mediation and supply;
g)
Supervision on the execution of labour regulations;
h)
Supervision on the execution of economic regulations;
i)
Stimulation of a relation between employers and employees;
j)
Developing cooperation.

Organization structure

DEZA consists in three sections and one staff office with the following main tasks:

  • Section of Economic Affairs and Developing Cooperation, main tasks a. (social-economical development planning), d. (development of tourism, traffic and transport, public utilities, and other sectors), e. (stimulation of small and medium enterprises), and j (developing cooperation).
  • Section of Labour Affairs, main tasks b. (development of employment), f. (labour mediation and supply), and i. (stimulation of a relation between employer and employees).
  • Section of Supervision and Control, main tasks g. (supervision on the execution of labour regulations) and h. (supervision on the execution of economic regulations).
  • Staff office Promotion and Innovation, main task c (promotion and innovation).

Cooperation

The Section of Economic Affairs and Developing Cooperation works in close cooperation with the following bodies:

SECTION OF ECONOMIC AFFAIRS AND DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION

Objectives

The Section of Economic Affairs and Developing Cooperation has the following objectives:

"Taking care of the preparation, execution, progress and quality of the policy advising with regards to the social-economic development of the Island Territory, the macro-economic policy, the foreign economic relations, developing cooperation, as well as supporting, monitoring and evaluating the execution of the chosen policy."

Tasks

The Section of Economic Affairs and Developing Cooperation (EZ&OS) has the following tasks for the realization of these objectives:

  • Social-economic development planning;
  • Registration and Control of social-economic data;
  • Foreign economic relations;
  • Social-economic policy advising;
  • Permit regulations for companies;
  • Beverage and HORECA ordinances;
  • Price ordinances;
  • Stimulation of small and medium enterprises;
  • Developing Cooperation.

SECTION OF LABOUR AFFAIRS

Objectives

The Section of Labour Affairs has the following objectives:

"Taking care of the preparation, execution, progress and quality of the policy advising with regards to labour supply issues and the admission of foreign labour forces, the reaction between supply and demand on the labour market through labour mediation and the supply of information, as well as supporting, monitoring and evaluating the execution of the chosen policy.”

Tasks

The Section of Labour Affairs has the following tasks for the realization of these objectives:

  • Labour market policy;
  • Labour mediation and the supply of information;
  • Policy advising on employment permits;
  • Mediation on labour disputes.

SECTION OF SUPERVISION AND CONTROL

Objectives

The Section of Supervision and Control has the following objectives:

"Taking care of the inspection, control, preservation and quality of the observance of the law and the regulations in the field of Economic and Labour Affairs, and based on that, supporting, monitoring and evaluating the execution of the related chosen policy. "

Tasks

The Section of Supervision and Control has the following tasks for the realization of these objectives:

  • Supervision and control on the implementation of labour regulations;
  • Supervision and control on the implementation of economic regulations.

STAFF OFFICE PROMOTION AND INNOVATION

Objectives

The Staff Office Promotion and Innovation has the following objectives:

"Taking care of the preparation, execution, progress and quality of the promotion of the economic possibilities of the Island Territory to persons and companies, as well as taking care of the preparation, implementation, progress and quality of the innovation of the economic possibilities of the Island Territory.”

Tasks

The Staff Office Promotion and Innovation has the following tasks for the realization of these objectives:

  • Promotion and Public relations;
  • Innovation and product development;
  • General Management.
